About Hanna

Hi, I’m Hanna — a patient, encouraging, and highly experienced academic mentor dedicated to helping students succeed with clarity and confidence.

I hold a PhD in Social Work from McGill University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto, where I specialized in health and mental health. Over the years, I have taught, mentored, and supported students at undergraduate and graduate levels, guiding them through academic writing, research design, and complex projects such as theses and dissertations.

My work as a university teaching assistant, guest lecturer, and research mentor has given me a deep understanding of what professors are looking for and how students can meet those expectations effectively.

Students often come to me feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of their abilities. I’m known for creating a calm, supportive, and non-judgmental learning environment where questions are welcome and progress feels achievable. I break down complex ideas into manageable steps and teach practical strategies that students can use independently long after our sessions end.

My background in counseling and mentorship also means I understand that learning is not just intellectual — it’s emotional too. I help students build confidence, organization skills, and resilience, alongside strong academic foundations. Whether we are working on structuring an essay, refining a research question, or preparing a thesis chapter, I bring professionalism, reliability, and genuine care to every session.

You can expect clear communication, thoughtful feedback, and a tutor who is truly invested in your growth and success. I look forward to working with you! :)

Hi! I’m Hanna, and my tutoring approach is supportive, structured, and tailored to each student’s goals and learning style.

My Teaching Methodology

I use a step-by-step, skills-building approach that combines clarity, encouragement, and practical tools. My background in research, teaching, and counselling means I’m especially good at breaking down complex ideas, reducing overwhelm, and helping students build confidence along with competence.

I focus on:

- Turning big, intimidating tasks (like theses or research projects) into manageable steps
- Teaching how to think critically and analytically — not just what to write
- Using real examples and hands-on practice so learning feels concrete and applicable
- Creating a calm, non-judgmental space where questions are always welcome
- I also integrate study strategies, organization methods, and writing frameworks so students leave with skills they can use independently.

What a Typical Lesson Looks Like

Each session is structured but flexible:

Check-in & Goal Setting (5–10 min)
- We review progress, challenges, and set a clear goal for the session.

Focused Learning Block (30–40 min)
This may include:
- Breaking down an assignment or research question
- Strengthening thesis statements and argument structure
- Learning qualitative research techniques (coding, themes, analysis)
- Editing for clarity, academic tone, and structure

Guided Practice (15–20 min)
- We apply what we just covered directly to your own work.

Wrap-Up & Action Plan (5 min)
- You leave with clear next steps and practical strategies to keep momentum going.

What Sets Me Apart

- PhD-level research expertise — I deeply understand academic expectations at the undergraduate and graduate levels
- Specialist in qualitative research — interviews, thematic analysis, NVivo/MAXQDA and research design
- Strong writing mentor — I help students develop clear arguments, structure papers, and refine academic voice
- Supportive and patient — I’m used to working with students who feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to begin
- Real-world + academic experience — I bridge theory and practical application
- Students often say they leave sessions feeling less anxious, more focused, and clear on exactly what to do next.

Who My Lessons Are For

I work with:

- Undergraduate students — essays, research papers, structure, and academic writing fundamentals
- Master’s students — thesis development, research design, qualitative methods, literature reviews
- PhD students — proposal writing, dissertation structure, qualitative analysis, and academic writing refinement
- Students in social sciences, health, humanities, and education fields especially benefit from my background

I’m particularly helpful for students working on theses, dissertations, or qualitative research projects who want both technical guidance and steady encouragement.

My goal is always the same: to help you become a more confident, capable, and independent learner.
