About Emily
Studying science should feel exploratory and expansive yet often it is not taught this way. I am passionate about chemistry and the unique perspective it can give on the world around us as well as the absolutely essential critical reasoning tools that we use in everyday life. After completing my bachelor's degree in Medical science (Macquarie University) I was awarded the Macquarie University Excellence Scholarship to complete my Masters in Research (organometallic chemistry) from which I was awarded the RTP scholarship to complete my PhD (organic chemistry) at UNSW. Throughout my studies I tutored HSC chemistry. During my masters I tutored 1st year general chemistry and second year physical chemistry. During my PhD I tutored 1st year organic chemistry and oversaw laboratory classes.

I have almost a decade of tutoring experience from high school students to 1st and 2nd year uni and a passion for helping equip students with the thinking and reasoning skills required for science. My approach focuses on instilling a depth of understanding as opposed to a rote learning of rules with the goal of developing students' confidence and tools to approach any question they may face. I have found the ideal length of a lesson to be between 1 - 2 hours but this is dependent on the student and how much work they are able to do between lessons. For a diligent student 1 hour is more than satisfactory.
