About Anya

I am a PhD student looking at the role of the brain's immune system during prenatal development against viruses such as SARS-CoV-2. I recently completed my Research Masters, where I investigated the potential of fruit flies to model the rare neurodevelopmental disorder CASK, and from this I was invited to speak at the BPNA annual conference. Prior to this, I graduated from the University of Bristol with a First in Biochemistry (BSc).
I have years of tutoring experience in Biology and Chemistry, at GCSE and A Level. I demonstrated in undergraduate research labs and supervised research interns.

I love science - the understanding, the foundation, and the application. This passion is beneficial when it comes to academic tutoring. I also have first-hand experience in taking these exams and I understand the lessons, the revision, and the feeling walking into that exam hall.

The combination of this passion for Science (and English - reading is unbelievably important for academic success, not just in humanities) and my experience as a demonstrator and tutor will ensure the best Science lessons.

For GCSE and A level students, the lessons will revolve around the exam board specification, as this is the key to succeeding at exams.

For a 40-50 minute lesson this will involve an overview of the student's school lessons that week, followed by any homework/practice questions which are relevant and useful, and finally going through points on the spec together to ensure the student has a thorough understanding of what is expected of them in an exam.
Prior to exam season (including mocks), I will show the student different revision techniques which will work to their advantage and we will practice exam technique through past papers and mark schemes.

Throughout GCSEs and A level I tutored students in the years below me. As someone who recently completed these exams, I am well aware of and prepared for the current structure of the exams; I understand the support the student will receive from the school and the gaps wherein I can provide support. I understand the mark schemes, the specification, and I am familiar with the topics which are being taught.

GCSEs: Triple Science, English, Maths
A Level: Biology, Chemistry, Maths
Pre-University: UCAS application, personal statement, interview preparation

I will always communicate with the parents the lesson overview and the student's progress. Academic success is achieved not just through working hard, but also through a balanced life outside of school. By working with the parent I can ensure the student achieves the grades they need.
