Find out more about Paul

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed an interest in my subject during my school years, I enjoyed Physics and Chemistry since the first class, as well as maths. I realized how rewarding it felt to not only learn new concepts but also explain them to classmates. Over time, this naturally grew into tutoring — I discovered that helping someone overcome a difficulty gave me just as much satisfaction as mastering the subject myself.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Chemistry, Physics and Maths. I particularly enjoy Organic Chemistry, Coordination Chemistry, Thermodynamics, Optics, Mechanics, Algebra or Mathematical analysis.
The parts I like a little less are usually the repetitive drills — but even those can be turned into engaging exercises with the right approach.
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, I had a teacher who truly believed in me when I was struggling. Instead of just explaining the material, they encouraged me to think in my own way and reminded me that mistakes are part of learning. That attitude inspired me to adopt the same patience and encouragement with my own students.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, empathy, and clarity. A good tutor knows how to adapt explanations to each student’s learning style, motivates them when they feel stuck, and creates a safe space where making mistakes is part of the journey.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I remember once helping a friend who was convinced they would fail an exam during highscool. We spent one session going over the basics in my dormroom (boarding school). He passed and thanked me, and also spread the word. Next time 3 asked for my help, then 5, and so on, up until having to use a classroom to teach about 25 of my friends. That moment stuck with me — it showed how much difference a bit of guidance and encouragement can make.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

Like many learners, I sometimes found complex problems on advanced topics intimidating at first. But I learned that breaking complex ideas into smaller, manageable steps was the key. This experience helps me empathize with students who feel overwhelmed, because I’ve been there myself.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching itself is a passion for me — I enjoy watching a student’s progress and their growing confidence. But I’m also passionate about history and languages learning. I like to use my historical knowledge to find examples to make my lessons more dynamic and gives students new perspectives.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering this interview questions :-P)?

What makes me a Superprof is my ability to adapt to each student. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all teaching — instead, I take time to understand a student’s strengths, challenges, and goals, and I adjust my approach accordingly. I combine patience with enthusiasm, so students not only learn but also enjoy the process.
