About Eden

Hi! I’m a PhD candidate in English literature with a passion for helping students feel more confident in their writing and ideas.
I know that essay writing and literary analysis can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially when expectations aren’t always clear. My goal is to make that process more approachable by breaking things down into manageable steps and giving you practical tools you can actually use.

I’ve supported students at both the high school and university level, and I specialize in essay writing, editing, and close reading (including Shakespeare and early modern texts). I also bring a background in theater, which gives me a strong sense of voice, clarity, and audience—skills that are incredibly useful in writing.

I aim to create a supportive, low-pressure environment where you can ask questions, build confidence, and make real progress. Whether you need help with one assignment or ongoing support, I’m happy to meet you where you are.

My approach as a tutor is collaborative, practical, and tailored to each student’s goals. I focus on helping students not only improve a specific assignment, but also build the skills and confidence to approach future work independently.

Teaching methodology and techniques:
I combine close reading, guided questioning, and clear structural frameworks. Rather than simply correcting work, I help students understand why something works (or doesn’t), so they can apply those insights moving forward. I often break down complex tasks—like essay writing or literary analysis—into manageable steps, and provide concrete strategies for each stage.

Typical lesson structure:

A session usually begins with identifying the student’s goals (e.g., improving an essay, preparing for an exam, or developing writing skills). From there, we might:

- Review a draft or text together
- Strengthen thesis statements and arguments
- Work on paragraph structure and clarity
- Practice close reading and analysis

I aim to make each session interactive and focused, with clear takeaways and next steps.

What sets me apart:
As a PhD candidate in English with a background in teaching and theatre, I bring both academic expertise and strong communication skills. I’m particularly skilled at helping students refine their ideas and express them clearly, especially in literary analysis and essay writing. I also understand how overwhelming writing can feel, and I work to create a supportive, encouraging environment where students can ask questions and build confidence.

Who my lessons are for:
I work with high school and university students, particularly in English literature, essay writing, and humanities subjects. This includes support for:

-Essay writing and editing
- Literary analysis (including Shakespeare and early modern texts)
- Exam preparation
- University application essays

I’m happy to adapt sessions for different levels and goals, whether you need ongoing support or help with a specific assignment.
