About Susan
Susan is a classically trained piano teacher, who started learning piano at the age of 5. She has tremendous experience and success teaching adult beginners and understands how to tailor the lessons to focus on their needs. An energetic and patient teacher, She graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto as a Teacher and Piano Performer (ARCT diploma). She has taught piano to over 1000 adults and has more than 20 years of teaching experience.
She has taught both online, privately and in the classroom environment. Her lesson curriculum includes technique, theory, sight-reading, ear-training and playing. She strives to make her lessons educational and entertaining in order to instill the most positive experiences

Are you an adult student that tried to teach yourself piano?
Simply Piano, Flowkey, countless hours on Youtube replaying the same video for hours without much success? Sounds familiar?
You are not alone.
During the pandemic, there was a surge in online piano courses and apps, many of which claimed that subscribing to their services would transform you into an exceptional piano player in no time.
In reality, what happens is that you can barely read music, your rhythms are totally off and you have no idea what you are doing with technique. There's no feedback mechanism so you have no idea if you are improving or developing bad habits and dependency on using the app.
Most apps only focus on teaching students to play the same simple song and skip all the foundation. There are tons of gaps which make it harder to play the music that you want to learn.
Without learning proper technique, knowing how to break things down and having a solid foundation, it makes playing challenging and non-musical.
Over the last 20 years teaching piano, I have taught over 1000 adult students and designed a comprehensive 10-week, in-person piano course focused on building a strong foundation in piano playing. During the first month, we concentrate on essential skills such as technique, patterns, coordination, movement, rhythm, and fluency in music reading before diving into songs. My goal is to ensure students develop a solid mastery of these core elements, as they serve as the pillars for any musical style they choose to explore. For adults with prior piano experience, I offer classes tailored to various skill levels, ranging from beginner to advanced.
All classes are a 45 min session designed to cover a broad range of piano skills, including:
Technical patterns and exercises
Sight reading
Rhythm training
Aural (ear) training
Music theory
Improvisation
Playing sheet music (classical, pop, modern, jazz etc.)
Harmonization exercises
This comprehensive approach ensures a well-rounded musical education for students.
