About Melina
Hi, I’m Melina! I’m a licensed social worker (LMSW) with a Master’s from Columbia University and a background in psychology and neuroscience. I’ve always enjoyed helping students learn in ways that make sense for them—and that includes making math feel way less scary. I specialize in working with students who need a little extra patience, whether they’re struggling with focus, anxiety, or just feel like math “isn’t their thing.” I know how frustrating it can be to feel behind or confused, and I love showing students that they can do it—with the right support. My goal is to make math feel clear, manageable, and maybe even fun.

I help students build confidence in math by breaking concepts down into clear, manageable steps. Whether we’re working on word problems, multiplication, fractions, or early algebra, I adapt my teaching style to match how each student learns best.
A typical session includes guided practice, review of problem-solving strategies, and real-time feedback. I use visuals, repetition, and real-world examples to make math feel more approachable and less intimidating.
I have experience working with students who have ADHD, math anxiety, and other learning differences. My lessons are best suited for elementary and middle school students who need support, structure, and a confidence boost in math.
