About Calum
I’m a born-and-raised Toronto kid who grew up outdoors and endlessly curious, always asking “why?” when it came to nature. That curiosity led me to study Biology at Dalhousie University in Nova Scotia, where I deepened not only my scientific knowledge, but also my understanding of how people learn. Before university, I gained experience working with kids as a babysitter and camp counselor. I always found ways to turn everyday fun into unexpected learning moments, sparking curiosity without it ever feeling like a chore. That same energy shapes my tutoring today: approachable, engaging, and rooted in helping students feel confident in what they’re learning.

I’m a Biology graduate with a passion for helping students understand the “why” behind what they’re learning instead of just memorizing facts. My teaching approach emphasizes building a strong foundation so students can confidently solve problems and tackle new material by connecting it to what they already know.
I originally got into teaching through my love of explaining games, and I’ve found that the skills carry over: patience, strategy, and the ability to break complex ideas into simple, relatable parts. I’m quick to pick up on individual learning styles and tailor my lessons accordingly, whether that means using diagrams, working through problems together, or simply having a conversation to clarify concepts.
Lessons are flexible and based entirely on your needs. Sessions can run as long as they need to, depending on what we want to accomplish, whether it’s preparing for a test, getting through a tricky homework assignment, or exploring a topic in more depth.
I like to begin by reviewing what we covered in the last session, then use that as a springboard into the next topic. We finish with a fun challenge or thought-provoking question to reinforce the material and preview what’s next.
I specialize in all areas of high school biology, especially: Physiology, Evolution, and Genetics
I also tutor high school math up to Grade 11, including: Algebra, Functions, Linear systems, Word problems and applied math
My lessons are best suited for:
