About Izzy
Hello! I am currently an Undergraduate student reading English Language and Literature at the University of Oxford. I have experience in teaching GCSE English Literature and Language, A-Level Literature, as well as in GCSE and A-Level written assessments within qualifications of Drama and Theatre theory - I can't get enough of it!! ➤ Background: My love for literature and theatre has always been inspired by my teachers, whose knowledge and enthusiasm made the complexities of texts and theory accessible and enjoyable. Their guidance sparked my passion to dedicate my time to academic improvement, allowing me to improve my confidence and explore my passions: these include my interests in reviewing and interrogating dramatic works, theatre production, stage acting, journalism, advertising, and similarly creative endeavours that allowed me to hone and apply skills of persuasion and communication. ➤ Personal: I have personally experienced the challenges of developing confidence in both written and spoken communication; through persistence and the support of my teachers, I’ve learned how to articulate complex ideas clearly and confidently. I am committed to support my students through this and similar anxieties, and encourage open communication and am always ready to listen and assist with any concerns. I left secondary school with A*s at A-Level, and as the only student to leave to study at Oxford. I want my students to have the confidence to strive for top marks, but most importantly that they feel confident in themselves. ➤ Interests: Beyond literature, I have a keen interest in drama and theatre, where understanding of historical, cultural, and social context enriched my enjoyment of texts as expressions of times and attitudes. These compelling narratives and characters on the page to the stage propelled my interest in reading of novels, where analysis and interpretation similarly uncovered meaning that was rich and fascinating. I have a love for various forms, genres, styles, and authors of literature, but have especially found texts concerning authorial intentionship, gender studies, power and hierarchy, and tragedy, to be my favourites. My Oxford degree so far has allowed me to enhance and broaden my interests in a wide range of supplementary texts, including (but not limited to) Autobiographical writing, Race Theory, Gender studies, Dramatic Theory, and Crime writing. I’m so excited to help my students reach their full potential, both in their academic pursuits and in their personal expression and confidence. I haven't long been an A-Level (or GCSE) student, and I know how it feels to strive to aim high! Let me support and guide you on your journey!

➤ Individual goals By initially identifying your specific learning objectives, we can tailor our tutoring sessions to meet your individual needs. Providing engaging lessons that spark your curiosity, and help build confidence in both written and spoken communication of ideas and analysis. ➤ Holistic teaching To help you develop critical thinking skills in preparation for examination, our sessions will strengthen understanding of the contexts surrounding the texts themselves. These focuses could include, for instance, textual analysis and interpretation where we develop understanding through close reading the texts, character studies, and exploration of contextual understanding. ➤ Written and Spoken Developing both written and oral communication skills through providing a reflective and evaluative space, where we may delve into textual nuances while making complex concepts accessible and enjoyable. Dependent on your specific learning goals, this could include essay structuring and writing, developing arguments, using evidence effectively, and essay revision or feedback. ➤ Accessible learning styles Furthermore, I am happy to facilitate oral presentations and debates where focus on spoken clarity, persuasion, and confidence allow for you to explore different interpretations and develop critical thinking skills. Within this format, these exercises improve communication of ideas within written examinations, as well as inform your evaluation and application of analysis. ➤ Academic and Personal I’m excited to help my students reach their full potential: both in their academic pursuits and in their personal expression and confidence.

Izzy is a very empathetic and enthusiastic tutor. She is patient and helpful, and has helped motivate me to do my best. I now feel much more confident in my writing abilities.
Izzy's classes are interactive, fun, and she gives me the choice of what topics and texts to focus on, so I can improve the parts of my studies I'm weaker in. She's helped me strengthen my arguments, given me support during classes with essay feedback and any worries about exams, and made me feel more capable for my upcoming a-level exams!
