About Bill
I am currently completing my undergraduate degree at New York University’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, with a concentration in language’s impact on identity. I have been tutoring friends informally for three years, scored in the 98th percentile on the JLPT N3 test two years ago, and have had the privilege to intern remotely as a Japanese-to-English translator with a Japanese tourism agency.

I’ve noticed that my friends who struggle the most in upper-level Japanese classes don’t have a strong foundation of basic grammar or vocabulary of the target language. Thus, I firmly believe in a structured approach to beginner language learning based on proficient comprehension of a grammar point, enriched with lots of practice, before moving onto the next one. I will base my lessons around a specific grammar point and introduce various vocabulary in example and practice sentences. And I hope to work closely with students to pinpoint specific grammar rules, vocabulary, or other areas of the language they need help on. This way, I hope to create a solid, sturdy foundational framework on which beginner-level learners can rely when they move onto more advanced levels of study.
