About Elizabeth
I am an art educator with a passion for fostering creativity, inclusivity, and innovation in my students. With experience teaching at Parsons School of Design and previously at the School of Visual Arts (SVA), I bring a dynamic approach that bridges technical mastery with personal expression. My teaching philosophy is rooted in encouraging students to explore their unique perspectives while developing the skills needed to thrive in the creative industries.
At both Parsons and SVA, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse groups of students, guiding them through a wide range of artistic practices, from digital media and design to traditional art techniques. I am committed to creating a learning environment that is both challenging and supportive, where students feel empowered to experiment, take risks, and connect their art with larger social and cultural conversations.
With a background in digital design, community organizing, and education, I strive to help students not only grow as artists but also as thoughtful, engaged individuals. I believe in the power of art to inspire change and encourage my students to view their work as a tool for personal empowerment and social transformation.

My Approach as an Art Tutor
As an art tutor, my approach is rooted in fostering creative expression, nurturing individuality, and creating a supportive, inclusive environment for all students. I believe that every student has a unique voice and perspective, and my goal is to help them explore and express that voice through art. My teaching philosophy combines technical skill-building with personal exploration, allowing students to not only develop their artistic abilities but also to connect deeply with the process of creation.
Encouraging Creative Freedom
I prioritize creative freedom in the learning environment, encouraging students to explore their own ideas, emotions, and cultural backgrounds through their art. Whether we are working on digital design, traditional painting, or mixed media, I strive to provide a space where students feel empowered to experiment, take risks, and make mistakes, all of which are essential to the artistic process. This freedom of expression not only enhances technical skill but also fosters confidence and self-awareness.
Tailored Instruction
I understand that every student learns differently, and I tailor my instruction to meet each student’s individual needs. Whether I’m working with beginners or more advanced students, I adjust my teaching methods to ensure that each student is both challenged and supported. This includes providing personalized feedback, offering technical tips, and helping students set and achieve their creative goals. I aim to meet students where they are while guiding them to push beyond their comfort zones and explore new techniques and concepts.
Bridging Art and Life
Art is not just about technique; it’s about how we see and interpret the world. As a tutor, I encourage students to reflect on their experiences, cultural identities, and the world around them as sources of inspiration. I emphasize that art is a powerful form of self-expression and communication, and I guide students in developing work that speaks to their personal narratives, social justice issues, or larger philosophical ideas. This integration of art and life enriches the learning process and helps students see their work as a vital contribution to broader conversations.
