About Anna
I am studying Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford.
I have a long held interest in the philosophy of education, the benefit of which is felt by my students as they transform into self-directed learners, flourishing in their subjects and forging an educational journey off their own volition.
I strongly believe that every person is a great thinker, learner and creator, and is ready to enjoy being so as part of their greater flourishing in life. It takes only the right teaching for this truth to become manifest.
Beyond academia, I am big lover of music; am building a new zine on art and politics; and have recently taken up skateboarding!

Methodology:
My teaching methodology is all about active thinking. By encouraging the student to take an active role in their own learning, I ensure that each session is tailored to their unique academic journey, and that they gain the skills and confidence needed to become independent thinkers for life. This means encouraging students to present what they understand on topics, learn to self-identify gaps in their knowledge, talk through their thought processes aloud, and always be asking questions. I have found this to result in highly effective, engaging and enjoyable lessons.
Learning structure:
There will first be an introductory session, to get to know each other and to discuss how the lessons will be of most use. Then each lesson will be dedicated to one topic and progress as follows:
5 minutes informal discussion. To establish how they find the topic; how they are doing in the subject more generally; and if there is anything they want to focus on.
10 minutes warm up. Either questions on topics previously covered or general numeracy practice.
20 minutes topic discussion. The student is encouraged to present what they understand through guiding questions. Gaps in understanding are established and filled in. By the end of this discussion, the student will have all the information to answer any question they will get on the topic.
20 minutes applied work. Working through questions together, with as much support as is needed.
5 minutes reflection and evaluation. Discuss what went well in the session and what to focus on for future lessons.
Optional further work may be given.
Qualifications and experience:
- Philosophy, Politics and Economics BA, in progress.
- A Levels: Further Mathematics, Mathematics, English Literature, A*A*A*.
- GCSEs: A^ Further Maths, A* Maths.
- Teaching experience: I have worked with SEND students; a range of groups sizes (from one-to-one to 30 student classes) and a range of age groups (from year one to retirees, and including GCSE and A Level students).
Key information:
- Lessons are usually an hour long, although this is flexible.
- Currently on a gap year, so will be tutoring in Sheffield and online for the next year.
- I have completed a recent safeguarding training and have an enhanced DBS check.
Please get in touch if you have any questions.

Anna’s a good teacher who excels at making complicated topics seem simple. She’s skilled at maths, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her!
Anna is phenomenally intelligent but more than that is her ability to engage students through her active approaches to learning. Highly recommend
