About Robert
Hi! I'm Rob. I'm a professional tutor & PhD researcher in theoretical physics. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Physics, and a Master's degree in Theoretical Physics both from the University of Oxford. I am currently coming towards the end of my PhD in Theoretical Physics from the University of Sussex. I have spent time at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), working in a plasma physics lab on a diagnostic to measure ion and neutral flows in the Plasma Krystal-4 (PK-4) experiment on the International Space Station. Also at Caltech, I have worked in the Department of Mathematics on a High Energy Physics Theory project in the AdS/CFT correspondence. Most recently, I have spent a year and a half at the University of California, Riverside as a doctoral research scholar - continuing my PhD research in theoretical particle physics (specifically, models of the Universe involving warped extra dimensions). I have over 7 years of experience teaching students (mostly) between the ages of 6 and 18. Ranging from Gifted and Talented primary school tuition, to A Level / IB & Oxbridge Physics / Maths / Engineering admissions preparation, mature students looking to get back into education, and leading tutorials & group classes at Universities in the UK and the US. Learning more about the Universe every day is what gets me up in the morning! Being able to share the wonders of science and maths with others only adds to this joy! My teaching methodology is extremely flexible, depending on the student's learning style. In these sessions, we will review content chosen by you, and work through exam style questions together. I will set questions at the end of each session for you to complete before the next one, where we will discuss them and I will provide solutions. Of course, if you have a preference for doing things differently (e.g. if you just want to cover exam questions, or cover specific points from multiple areas of the syllabus) that is perfectly fine too!
