About Janick
Hi, I'm Janick — a Reuben Scholar studying Mathematics at the University of Oxford. I specialise in BMO, TMUA and Oxbridge interview mentoring, helping students develop the depth of mathematical thinking and clarity of communication these assessments demand.
I achieved a top-2% score in the Oxford Mathematics Admissions Test and have a strong background teaching for and competing in mathematical olympiads. During the 2026 admissions cycle, I supported 10+ students with their Oxbridge interview preparation, focusing on structured problem-solving, articulating ideas clearly under pressure, and approaching unfamiliar questions with confidence.
My lessons are calm, supportive, and highly interactive. I guide students through challenging problems step-by-step, encourage independent thinking, and help them develop the ability to explain their reasoning clearly — an essential skill for both interviews and written admissions tests.
Beyond tutoring, I've worked extensively with young people as a climbing instructor and currently serve as an Oxford admissions student ambassador. I am enhanced DBS certified.

Specialist Maths Tutoring for A-Level, MAT, and Olympiad Students
I work with students who want to do well in maths and are willing to put the work in — whether that's securing an A* at A-Level, preparing for university admissions, or tackling Olympiad problems.
Sessions are built around doing mathematics together, not watching me do it. We use an online whiteboard to work through challenging, often non-standard problems in real time, and rather than just showing you the solution, I'll ask questions that nudge you toward finding it yourself. It's the same kind of thinking that happens in an Oxford tutorial — and it's far more effective than passive note-taking.
For A-Level and Further Maths students, we spend a lot of time on the questions that actually separate the A* candidates: the long, multi-step problems at the end of the paper that require structured reasoning and careful proof technique. These are learnable skills, and we build them deliberately.
For students preparing for Interviews, TMUA, or Olympiads, the focus shifts slightly. The goal here is developing the kind of exploratory, resilient thinking that lets you stay composed when a question looks completely unfamiliar — which is exactly what those papers are designed to test, and what Oxbridge interviewers want to see.
What you'll take away
By the end of our work together, you won't just have answers to problems — you'll have a clearer, more flexible way of thinking about mathematics. Students consistently find they can articulate their reasoning more confidently and handle new challenges without needing to be shown the way first.
I also send follow-up problem sets after each session if you want extra practice to consolidate what we've covered.

Janick is an outstanding mathematician and gifted educator. While still at school he set up a group for students preparing for the British Maths Olympiad, both teaching new material and sourcing problems for tutorials. He also continues to support students with university admissions and has a comprehensive experience of STEP, TMUA and MAT. Janick is an inspiring tutor, able to balance an expectation of rigour with a highly supportive approach.
I first met Janick when he volunteered to tutor my fellow pupils and I towards our Hamilton and Maclaurin Olympiads. This was an invaluable opportunity for me; working with Janick helped to greatly enhance my ability in a variety of mathematical skills, spanning from proof by induction to number theory. Ultimately, this was integral for me to attempt the Olympiad with far more confidence within myself, but I also now feel I have developed a greater mathematical fluency thanks to Janick. I would absolutely recommend Janick as a tutor, since I believe his patience and ability to explain mathematical concepts with clarity in a clear and concise manner was truly beneficial for me.
I got to know Janick during the school sessions that he ran which focused on Olympiad maths. Janick’s clear explanations of complex areas of Olympiad mathematics allowed me to greatly improve understanding of previously confusing concepts and have given me much more confidence approaching this style of problem. Sessions with Janick usually consisted of a thorough, well thought out introduction to a new concept followed by a knowledgeably selected, progressive and stimulating set of problems on this concept which were completed with his guidance. He is very skilled at demonstrating how to link complex problems with more simple ones, massively increasing confidence when approaching challenging Olympiad questions. For these reasons I highly recommend Janick as a maths tutor.
I met Janick at one of the maths sessions he ran at school on olympiad maths. Despite initially having minimal understanding of the ideas and process behind solving those sorts of problems, Janick’s help greatly changed that. His gradual introduction to the methods required to solve problems as well as clear explanations about how they worked made his knowledgeability on the subject clear and allowed me to quickly improve, despite the unfamiliar and challenging situation I was in. His way of teaching focused on introducing a new idea with some simpler problems before moving onto more challenging ones and I believe that this way of learning not only helped me to understand the ideas quickly, but also bridged the gap that I had with harder problems allowing me to tackle them with much greater success. For these reasons, I highly recommend Janick as a tutor for maths.
