VCE high school students: I focus on essay writing skills and text analysis. We will discuss the texts you’re studying as part of your curriculum, then work together to read, analyse, and interpret the text in an essay. I can give feedback and guidance on practice exams and essays. I can also provide you with further study tools and techniques that have worked well for me throughout high school and university.

Undergrad students: You already have the foundational skills from high school, but there is a big learning curve when you enter university classes. I know exactly how you feel and I’m here to help. We will discuss the texts you’re studying as part of your current units, then work together to read, analyse, and interpret the text in an essay. I can provide helpful contextual notes and research tools. I can also provide you with further study tools and techniques that have worked well for me throughout my undergrad and postgrad studies.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I really enjoyed English, Literature and Drama in highschool. I did an Advanced Diploma in Professional Screenwriting and a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and English Literature. I am hoping to complete an Honours in Literature next year, before doing my Masters and becoming an English teacher! It's a long road (and a lot of study) before I get there, so in the meantime, I'm building my skills in education here on Superprof.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I'm a big reader and I even have an Instagram account dedicated to my bookshelf! English and Literature are such incredible subjects because they help you creatively build skills in communication, critical thinking and problem solving. I love essay writing and I really enjoy helping students build confidence in analysis and essay structure. Like a lot of my students, I dread exams and assignment deadlines. Anxiety can often get the better of me when my grades are at stake. That's why I always stick to an organised study plan and make sure that the learning experience is relaxed and engaging. Learning can and should be fun!
  • Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

I know it's corny, but when I'm looking for inspiration, I picture myself in 5 years. I want to be like her - but I have to do the work to get there!
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

Patience, a good sense of humour, empathy and passion. A good tutor is invested in their students' success and believes in them. When all else fails, at least make them laugh!
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I did my degree completely online, during Covid. I graduated without ever setting foot on the campus!
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

Sometimes the workload can be overwhelming - especially when I don't enjoy the book I have to study.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

I really love tutoring English and I can't wait to be a teacher - but my greatest dream is to be a published author.
  • What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions)?

I really enjoy what I do. Sure, it's a job and it pays the bills, but I also get really excited when a student has a breakthrough, gets a great grade, or laughs at one of my terrible jokes.
