About Talia

Hello! I’m an English Literature student at the University of Oxford. I’ve just finished my first year at Pembroke College, and I’m really enjoying diving deeper into the texts and ideas I first fell in love with at GCSE and A-level.

I started tutoring because I remember how much clearer everything became once I understood how to analyse texts properly, rather than just what to write. After getting my own GCSEs and A-levels, I began helping younger students with English, and I really enjoyed seeing them grow in confidence and improve their grades. One student I worked with moved from a Grade 7 to a Grade 9, which was lovely to see.

At GCSE I achieved Grade 9s in both English Literature and English Language, along with full marks in my coursework for both subjects. At A-level I also received full marks in my English Literature coursework. I’ve always loved writing too — I was shortlisted for national writing competitions at school, won first prize in my school’s writing contests, and I’m currently working on a novel and some short stories. My EPQ focused on Edgar Allan Poe’s horror writing techniques, which really developed my skills in close reading and understanding how writers create effects.

In my lessons I’m patient and encouraging. I focus on helping you understand why texts work the way they do, rather than just memorising quotes or techniques. Whether you need support with essay structure, analysing poetry or prose, improving your creative writing, or preparing for exams, I’ll tailor the sessions to what you need and help you feel more confident in your own ideas.

If you’re looking for friendly, supportive help with GCSE or A-level English, I’d be really happy to work with you.

My Zoom lessons are practical and focused on helping you improve your essay writing, textual analysis, and coursework. We work together on whatever you need most — whether that’s planning and structuring essays, analysing unseen poetry or prose, comparing texts, or developing your coursework ideas.

In a typical session, we’ll usually look at work you’ve already done or a text you’re currently studying. I’ll give you clear, constructive feedback and we’ll work through improvements together in real time. Because I’ve recently studied English at a high level myself, I can share what actually helps when trying to move from a solid answer to a really strong one.

I’m especially good at helping students build clearer arguments, improve their close analysis of texts, and write more confidently under timed conditions. For coursework, I’ll review your drafts, help you refine your ideas, and suggest improvements without writing anything for you.

Lessons are relaxed and completely tailored to your goals and the texts you’re studying. I’m happy to work around your school timetable, and I can also offer quick feedback on short pieces of work or answer small questions between sessions if you need it.

My aim is to help you feel more confident in your own ideas and able to tackle English tasks more independently.

Please note: My Zoom lessons are not designed to teach the full syllabus. Instead, I focus on helping you improve the specific skills you want to develop — particularly your written work and critical thinking.
