About Alexander
I am a tutor, academic research assistant, small publisher, and travel enthusiast based in the North West of England. I hold a BA in English and French from the University of Oxford and spent a year studying philosophy and literature at Sorbonne Université in Paris. Coming from a disadvantaged background, I have firsthand experience of the transformative power of language and literature and am passionate about making this accessible to students of all ages and abilities. I specialise in tailoring lessons to individual needs, whether that’s preparing for exams, improving confidence, or simply rediscovering the joy of learning. I believe education should adapt to the student, not the other way around. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging environment where students can thrive, building the skills and self-assurance they need to succeed both academically and beyond.

I believe that everyone can enjoy studying literature and languages - it's my job to unlock your natural curiosity. Since 2018, I have worked with GCSE and A-level students of all abilities, Oxbridge applicants and hobbyists. My lessons are tailored to your unique needs and interests, using the Oxford University tutorial method as a teaching framework. Through literary analysis, debate and writing exercises, we will develop your confidence, creativity and critical thinking skills. The first lesson is a casual assessment and general conversation that helps me to understand your current level and goals, after which we agree on a plan of action. Usually, you will hand in a short piece of homework each week, which we discuss line by line - no stone is left unturned! We will also work on any questions that have arisen at school. Alongside subject-specific teaching, I offer support with knowledge management, revision planning and integrative study to help you become a successful, independent learner.
