About Katie

Hello! I’m Katie, and I enjoy tutoring because I believe that learning is one of the most important things we do as humans. Growing your understanding of the world and connecting with others through learning is what makes life so meaningful. It’s a joy to be part of that process, helping you get confident, curious, and excited about your subjects. My goal is to make every session engaging and supportive. Whether you’re preparing for an important exam, need help tackling a challenging topic, or simply want to grow your confidence, I’m here to help. I know that learning can feel overwhelming at times, and I’ll work with you to create a calm, encouraging environment where you feel comfortable asking questions and exploring new ideas. When I’m not tutoring, I love spending time reading, writing, and rowing. I also enjoy relaxing with my friends and, of course, cuddling my cat! Learning is a lifelong journey, and I’m constantly inspired by the curiosity and resilience I see in my students. I’m excited to meet you and support your learning journey. Let’s work together to help you feel confident, capable, and ready to achieve your goals!

I am passionate about creating a safe and supportive learning environment where students feel connected and empowered. My approach emphasises curiosity and critical thinking over rote memorisation, fostering a genuine love of learning. I aim to demystify the exam process by ensuring students understand what is being asked of them, building their confidence and competence. For students struggling with school avoidance, anxiety, or neurodivergence, I offer a trauma-informed, child-centred approach. With experience as a practitioner for a children's charity, I have provided one-to-one supervision and emotional support to children with mental health conditions. This experience shapes my tutoring, ensuring each student feels safe, valued, and encouraged to re-engage with learning in a positive way. My lessons prioritise curiosity and enjoyment, helping to rebuild confidence and reframe education as something exciting rather than overwhelming. My sessions typically last 60 minutes, with a 5-minute break depending on the child's needs. For students who benefit from longer sessions, I offer two-hour lessons with breaks to maintain focus. Flexibility is key, and I adapt session lengths to suit each student. I work with students aged 9 to 18, with a particular preference for supporting GCSE and A-level students. Whether it's tackling exam content, mastering study techniques, or developing strong writing skills, I provide tailored support to help students achieve their goals. My writing-focused approach is designed to help students express their thoughts clearly and effectively, a vital skill for excelling in exams. Over the past two years, I have worked as a private tutor with a well-regarded company in Oxford and independently as a freelance tutor. I have extensive experience preparing students for private school entrance exams, including the 11+, 13+, and scholarship assessments. In these lessons, I build confidence through targeted practice and clear exam strategies. Collaboration is at the heart of my work. I partner closely with students and their parents or carers to establish clear, achievable objectives. By getting to know each student’s unique perspective and learning style, I tailor my methods to suit their needs, creating an effective and engaging learning experience. I have completed training in children's mental health and trauma-informed care, and I hold an enhanced DBS certificate. I am committed to nurturing confidence, resilience, and a lifelong love of learning in every student I support.
