About Tom
I'm a passionate and approachable tutor with a strong academic background and a commitment to helping students succeed. I graduated with a First in Engineering Science from Oxford University and am now completing a PhD at Imperial College London in robotics, computer vision, and distributed computing. With experience guiding students through competitive university applications, including Oxbridge admissions tests, I understand the challenges of advanced Maths and Physics. I aim to create a supportive and engaging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, exploring ideas, and building confidence. My teaching is flexible, professional, and always tailored to the needs of each individual.

I offer remote, one-hour lessons tailored to each student—whether it’s walking through tough exam questions, exploring difficult concepts in an Oxford-style tutorial, or prepping for admissions tests like PAT and ESAT. I’ve successfully supported students applying to Oxbridge Engineering, and I’m most familiar with GCSE, A-level, and university admissions, though I welcome learners of all ages and levels. In our first session, we’ll discuss your goals and shape the lessons to suit your needs.

Tom tutored my nephew in Maths for a year and honestly made such a difference. Maths had always been a subject my newphew struggled with, but Tom explained things in a way that finally clicked. He even managed to make it enjoyable for a 15-year-old teenage boy! Thanks to Tom’s help, he went from a grade 5 to a grade 8. We’re so grateful and couldn’t recommend him enough!
Tom is a brilliant tutor, his instructions and guidance is always clear and helpful. He's super smart but also able to reach me at my level of understanding. He is a kind and caring tutor who really wants the best for his tutees, i cant recommend him enough
Tom is an outstanding tutor; he is the most effective tutor in maths and physics I have had.
First, Tom is an excellent teacher. There are people who know a subject well but cannot explain the concepts clearly or logically to a student. Tom is, however, an exceptionally effective teacher, who is smart and has a full command of the subject, but can explain the logic step-by-step. I've had other tutors who almost 'tried to show off' by speeding up in sections that are particularly confusing, just to demonstrate their knowledge. I need a good teacher to help me, not someone who reminds me of how much more knowledgable he is.
Second, unlike many other tutors, Tom prepares thoroughly for each of our lessons. He often points out highly insightful points on individual problems that I would have otherwise missed. Because he has already familiarised himself with the exercises and the subjects, Tom is quick to understand/anticipate my reasoning for each problem. He is excellent at giving the minimum amount of advice for me to solve problems. His preparedness and his ability to anticipate have been tremendously helpful in improving my problem solving aptitude, which is what the ESAT is focussed on. The ease with which Tom does this is not too surprising given his time at Oxford and work on a robotics PhD at Imperial College.
Before finding Tom, I had tried different tutors to help me prepare for the ESAT. I'm so glad to be working with Tom. His lessons are ones I genuinely look forward to, and I would struggle to find a stronger tutor than Tom. I highly recommend Tom as a tutor in maths and physics.I have known Tom for many years and thus can provide a reference based on personal and professional merit.
Professionally, Tom is exceptional. He understands the needs of the student, listens to their current methodologies and assists in finding a solution together. While at Oxford, he achieved exams results that places him in the top 5%, lending him the title of the 'go-to Maths guru' and someone you know will get the job done.
During undergrad, Tom assisted me with mathematical problems within a methodology module. I would not have passed that module without additional tutoring from Tom.
Personally, Tom is kind and will not judge based on ability. He has tutored children as young as 10 all the way up to undergraduate - his most recent focus was helping Maths students pass Oxbridge entrance exams.
I highly recommend Tom as a tutor - he will ensure you get an A*!View more recommendations
