About Laura
After teaching for over two years, I have developed a track record in bolstering student achievement and confidence amongst my students. I have worked with students of varying backgrounds, including refugees and those with SENDs. Therefore, I have become successful at adapting to a wide range of student needs, working closely with them to identify strengths, weaknesses and long-term strategies for success. During a first session, I usually spend some time establishing an understanding of the student's aims, and how best to achieve them. Following this, I set brief assessments, so that I can ascertain the student's abilities and focus on any revealed weakness in following weeks. I always encourage students to ask as many questions as possible, and consistently strive to make my lesson space welcoming and stress-free for those that particularly struggle with the pressures and expectations of school deadlines and workloads. To this end, my lessons strike the right balance between fun and focused, often adhering to strict weekly objectives. I usually focus my lessons around the completion of practice papers and worksheets, but I am flexible on this dependent on student needs and parental preferences. I specialise in teaching: - 20th+ Century History - US, Russian, British and EU Politics - Unseen and anthology poetry within English Literature - English Language and comprehension - Preparing students for IELTS qualifications - All entrance exams up to 11+.
