About Kathleen
I am an experienced and patient tutor with a strong track record of helping students lift their VCE Mathematics study scores, including guiding students toward results of 40+ in Mathematical Methods and Specialist Mathematics. My teaching is built on understanding over memorizing: rather than having students memorize formulas as fixed rules, I walk them through why a formula works and how it’s derived. Once a student understands where a formula comes from, they have far less to memorize — and can often reconstruct it themselves if they blank under exam pressure. This builds real confidence and resilience, rather than a fragile reliance on recall. My focus is on helping students master the four areas of study common across VCE Math — Functions, Relations and Graphs; Algebra, Number and Structure; Calculus; and Data Analysis, Probability and Statistics — with teaching tailored to Foundation, General, Mathematical Methods, or Specialist Mathematics depending on the student’s pathway. I’m well-versed in the VCAA Mathematics Study Design and the specific technique and working requirements VCAA examiners look for in both the tech-free and CAS-active exams. My strong communication skills let me connect with students and explain complex ideas clearly, adapting my approach to each student’s needs — whether they’re catching up, consolidating, or aiming for a top study score. I am currently pursuing a degree in Data Science at Monash. This academic background sharpens my mathematics tutoring, since data science relies heavily on mathematical fluency and problem-solving — insights I bring directly into sessions to help students see how the concepts apply beyond the exam.
