I'm a Lawyer and a Fitness Expert. There is a lot of wrong information regarding dieting available on the internet and most of the trainers are also not aware about how quantified nutrition works. Tell me if your trainer tells you to have a BOWL of rice/oats instead of quantifying the food on a kitchen eight scale. Don't worry. I'll teach you that.

It's easy. We start with the basics to follow in the first week regarding quantifying your food alongside your workouts and rest depends on how your body responds to the given diet and workout. If the body responds well then we shall continue with the same plans otherwise we may need to tweak a bit.
The diet plans will include food that you eat regularly including dal, roti, rice, chicken, etc but one thing will be different, i.e. you will need to quantify your food.
