About Julie
I am an Ontario Certified Teacher with 11 years of classroom experience. I have taught all levels of high school English, including speciality courses like the Ontario Literacy Course and Writer’s Craft. I currently teach at the middle school level and am the Language Arts and Literacy lead for my division.
I have qualifications for junior/intermediate/senior levels and hold my honours specialist in English from Queen’s University.
I have 15 years of tutoring experience, tutoring virtually and in person. During the pandemic, I hosted online guided reading sessions for children all over the world. These courses focused on reading comprehension, vocabulary, and grammar, whilst fostering a love of learning.
In 2020, I worked closely with Big Brothers Big Sisters Toronto to develop reading support programs for children who were experiencing challenging barriers to school. These programs are still being used today!
In my current tutoring, I work with students to bridge learning gaps in comprehension, reading fluency, and written expression. My personalized lessons are engaging, and build students’ confidence for success in their classrooms and beyond.
I am a passionate educator that truly believes in meeting students where they are and encouraging growth from there. All students can be successful in English, they just need the right tools!
