This is my sample lesson plan:
Business/Materials
The Tortoise and the Hare
Aesop’s Fables (Planet PDF)
Lesson Objectives
Students can read the English version of "The Tortoise and the Hare", recognize all the words in it, and can provide their own comments on the story.
Students have the ability to use what they have learned (words, grammar, etc.) to write a short essay about their daily life.
Student can apply some writing techniques in there own wirting.
Warm-up and Objective Discussion
Warmup: Ask the students if they have read "Aesop's Fables" before, and let them discuss freely for 2-3 minutes. Play the video animation of the tortoise and the hare before class.
Objective discussion: Emphasize the importance of reading and writing to students. Emphasize to students that after completing this series of courses, their English reading ability will have a huge improvement.
Instruct and Model
Explain the key words and phrases in "The Tortoise and the Hare" to students, and distribute word lists to students.
Introduce outline and paragraph blocks to students. And after the lecture, handouts containing outline model and paragraph template are distributed to students.
Divide the students into groups of 3 and give them 5-10 minutes to discuss which words in the vocabulary list can be used to describe daily life, or which words they think they can use in their own writing. After the discussion, let each group speak and let them show the results of their discussion to the class. If there are errors in the results of the discussion, make summary corrections after the students have finished speaking.
Guided Practice
Keep the previous grouping unchanged, and give each group 5-10 minutes to brainstorm and discuss what content can be included in the writing topics of the members of the group.
After the discussion, ask students to complete the outline of their short article or complete 1-2 paragraph blocks of their article.
After writing, randomly select 2-3 students (depend on time limit) and ask them to tell how they applied the newly learned knowledge.
Independent Practice
Homework: Let students memorize today's vocabulary list.
Complete the remaining essay and mark where they used the newly learned knowledge.
Need to submit both final draft of essay and their outline/ paragraph blocks.
Extra Credit: Read more "Aesop's Fables" stories and use the news words in the extra reading material. If students complete this additional requirement, they will need to mark in their homework which story these new words come from.
Assessment
On the second day, design a multiple-choice quiz for the contents of the word list.
