About Jade
Hi there :) My name is Ms. Maxwell, I am a soon-to-be full-time high school English teacher in Chicago, IL! I absolutely love writing and reading, with my favorite genre being science fiction! I'm a HUGE advocate for believing in yourself, so know that I'll always cheer you on, even when you doubt yourself! I have had tons of experience with teenagers; I've been working at a teen enrichment camp for the past 4 years. I also am a part of the Golden Apple Foundation, which values the importance of education! I love discussing different things I read, so I hope we'll get to do that together! I am also very flexible, I want learning to be fun! Any suggestions or ways that I can make your learning more entertaining, I'm always open to ideas! :)

As far as reading goes, students will gain independence in their reading literacy through praxis. Typically, I will begin reading texts to students, but have them analyze the language & meaning of texts. Progressively, the student(s) will take on more agency in reading while I dissect. Students will slowly grow to a place where they do not rely on the instructor to read closely & dissect texts.
For writing, showing students how to read like a writer is what will change their writing! By improving reading literacy, students will be able to identify & understand various writerly choices in diverse texts. Students will learn to analyze the texts, discuss why an author would make said choice, then practice those choices in their own writing.
