About Brendan
Hi, I’m Brendan!
Having grown up in Taiwan and later studied abroad here in Canada for high school, I have a deep, native connection to the Mandarin language and a firsthand understanding of what it takes to learn a second language. This past June, I graduated high school with top academic marks, and this September, I am heading to Simon Fraser University (SFU) to begin my degree.
Through years of informal peer tutoring and mentoring younger family members, I have developed a highly patient, encouraging, and observant teaching style. I know how to spot a student's individual needs and turn challenging concepts into engaging, fruitful lessons.

Hi, I’m Brendan! As an incoming SFU student who grew up in Taiwan and completed high school here in Canada, I specialize in teaching Mandarin to kids and absolute beginners. I know how tough learning a new language can be, so my goal is to make our lessons natural, active, and completely stress-free.
Here is how we will learn together:
Daily Conversations: We will focus heavily on speaking and listening through fun, daily chats, correcting your child’s pronunciation organically as we speak.
Reading & Writing: We will cover character recognition, and writing stroke order using visual, easy-to-understand methods.
Native Taiwanese Accent: I teach with a clear, soft accent and can use either Traditional or Simplified characters, depending on what your family prefers.
Bilingual Communication: Because I finished high school in Canada, I speak fluent English and can clearly explain the culture and meaning behind Chinese words.
Our First Class: We will start with a friendly, low-pressure chat to evaluate your child's level, talk about their favorite hobbies, and build a fun, personalized plan just for them!
