Hi! My name's Tim and I study Civil Engineering at Bath. I provide online, or in person (North London based) tutoring of Maths at GCSE and A level.

About Timothy
I'm energetic and enthusiastic. I've been helping people get their heads around maths since school, and even now have people come to me for help from my own course at university.
I understand that for the students I am teaching, it might seem daunting, or that they may not have the confidence when it comes to maths. For me, it is important that as well as teaching the basics, our sessions help instill a "maths self-confidence" within the student. This means that they are able to question things and take on more adverse problems they may not have learned the full solutions to.
I believe that so long as you're engaged, there is never a silly question. It is okay to make mistakes, and also good to struggle; from my experience, these are the moments as a student (whether being taught by someone or studying yourself) where you learn the most & make the most progress.
I benefitted from tutoring during my secondary school years, and have tutored in the past. One girl I tutored for maths managed to rise from getting a 3 in her mock, to a 6 in her final GCSE, enabling her to take the subjects she wanted to at A level.

I tend to like doing hour-long sessions. In the case of longer sessions (1.5-2hrs), I would have a short break halfway through. The regularity of these sessions is up to the student and their needs.
I would mainly use the session time for teaching content / going through examples & homework, and then set a small amount of homework to be completed before the next session in the student's own time.
I'd use the initial sessions to pinpoint what key areas need attention (specific weak subjects, exam technique ,problem solving etc.). I can then tailor the exercises and teaching to suit these as we continue.
