About Joseph

I’m a house and techno producer, international DJ, and lecturer, and I coach producers to build ideas from scratch, develop early sketches into finished, release-ready tracks, and refine productions to a professional standard through structured, practical mentoring tailored to your goals and level.

Over the last decade I’ve worked with hundreds of producers through universities, private mentoring, and my own online school, helping students build confidence, improve workflow, develop stronger musical direction, and achieve more professional results in their productions.

My music has over 2M streams and 200+ releases across multiple aliases including Jozef K, with support from Dixon, Sasha, Keinemusik, Mano Le Tough, Maya Jane Coles, and Joris Voorn, alongside regular support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6, Resident Advisor, and Mixmag.

I’ve lectured in music production and industry strategy at BIMM Berlin, University of Salford, and City of Liverpool College, and currently run Audio In Effect, a school focused on modern house and techno production.

Lessons are built around your music, goals, and current level, whether you’re just starting out in house and techno or already releasing music.

This is a highly practical, experience-led approach shaped by years of working with producers at every stage, from complete beginners to releasing artists. I’ve refined how to identify what actually moves a house & techno track forward quickly, and how to structure sessions so you get clear, immediate progress each time.

You get direct feedback, clear decision-making support, and focused guidance on finishing records with a professional standard of clarity and intent.

The teaching is based on a structured framework developed over years of one-to-one work with house and techno producers, designed to consistently turn ideas into finished tracks and build long-term production confidence. If you want to understand the full curriculum and lesson format in more detail, just ask me.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

So this one is a bit of a cringe answer, but my mum told me I used to cry at the opera as a baby, I was just always affected by it. I'd say piano. I did lessons for a while, mainly to boost my theory and composition skills. I was actually so bad, but it gives me a deeper admiration for the truly talented players in the world! Their talent, skill, and dedication never fail to amaze me. Also, it is just THE foundational instrument.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

Deep dub techno, immersive, hypnotic. Example record: Emerge (Edit) by Substance and Vainqueur.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

Go from zero production skills to signing their track to a dream label and seeing them flourish artistically.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

Piano - two contrasting melodies on different hands with different rhythms, is incredibly difficult. Go watch someone play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 on YouTube for an example, it's almost inhuman to have skill levels like that. So impressive. Their dedication has to be relentless over a lifetime.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

    Consistency of effort.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Burial, Timbaland, and Soichi Terada. I'd go for different artists, different genres, with different backgrounds from all parts of the world. We’d have some amazing conversations about culture and music.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

I remember learning about the ADSR envelope and it being delivered in such a way that it frightened me away from it. But later I realised, outside of university, that it's actually super intuitive. Just because you don't entirely understand the technical aspect doesn't mean you can't use it creatively and to great effect. I try to bring a little of this to my newer students: simplify the process, keep it creative, keep it fun, and keep things moving.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Lifelong music nerd - love listening to other people's records and ways of doing things. Love connecting with people from different cultures and walks of life and hearing their stories. I love to get into the heads of my clients and try to give them exactly what they need from me to progress in their records. I love to see their progress, from big things like completing records, to week-on-week improvements in workflow speed and navigation. I love my job as an Ableton coach! I also love working from home with a pot of coffee!
