About Patricija

I have graduated two music schools and been singing for 10 years in classical and pop backgrounds. I have learned singing techniques from several different vocal coaches while doing a Music Performance degree at a university. I have been teaching people of different ages and musical backgrounds since October 2020 and have seen some great progress in them. My classes are all about embracing uniqueness and confidence feeling great while singing.

I can help people with little or no music background to find their own unique voice and strengthen it. We would be working on breathing, stretching and singing exercises as well as songs either of your choice or based on my recommendations. I aim to teach people to be universal and not only to improve their singing but to understand music, by explaining the reason and the theory behind exercises.

  • 1) When did you first develop a passion for music and your favourite instrument?

I would say that I had a passion for singing for as long as I can remember myself. From a young age I was a part of a children band which led me to tour my country and the abroad while doing something I loved.
  • 2) Is there a particular type of music or artist that you listen to on a loop without it driving you crazy?

I could listen to lo-fi music all day everyday. At this point it is like meditation to me.
  • 3) Explain to us the most difficult or riveting course you could personally give to a student of music.

I believe that the most difficult part of singing is actually getting to know the theory, would it be music theory or just everything behind singing. Sure, that might be simple for someone who has studied music before, but to someone who never did, it's quite a challenge and a lot to take in. I believe that there is a misconception that for someone to sing, they do not need to know any theory and that makes singing easier than mastering an instrument. But to be good at singing, that is not the case at all.
  • 4) What do you think is the most complicated instrument to master and why?

I would say violin for the general public. I think it needs a lot of precision, rhythm, and theoretical knowledge to master this instrument. But the voice is complicated as well, mostly because we cannot choose one. While you can buy the most expensive violin, you cannot exchange your voice. You can only learn to make it more flexible. But there will always be things that you can't change. There is a certain range which while can be expanded a little, will always have boundaries, which other people might not have. You can learn a lot of things, but the thing is that there is no way of changing what you are starting with.
  • 5) What are your keys to success?

Dedication and habits. If a person can dedicate themselves to what they're doing and make a habit off of it, they can succeed at anything. It applies to singing as well. If you are dedicated to put in the work and do your exercises every day, that is how you progress and succeed.
  • 6) Name three musicians you dream of meeting in your favourite bar in the early hours of the morning. Explain why.

Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Ella Fitzgerald, because based on their music, I believe that they would have some great early morning conversations.
  • 7) Provide a valuable anecdote related to music or your days at music school.

There was a time where I had to sing in front of my peers for the first time in my music school and the song I was singing was quite difficult. As the chorus approached I was feeling confident, but while singing the highest note, my voice broke. I was so embarrassed, my teachers were laughing. I felt really bad but at that moment I started laughing with them. And we joked about it after the performance. The shame disappeared. The moral of this story would be that everyone makes mistakes, everyone fails sometimes, so it's important to just laugh about it and learn from it.
  • 8) What are the little touches that make you a Superprof in music?

Being very supportive and understanding that everyone is different. Adapting to everyone's needs and visions.
