About Salma
Hello there! I am currently an MSc Astrobiology & Planetary Sciences student at the University of Edinburgh. My courses range from population genomics to astrophysics to remote sensing, and my dissertation investigates whether biological complexity is inevitable using computational modelling.
I graduated from the University of Manchester with a BSc in Biology with Professional Experience. I undertook a 1-year placement at Osaka University (Japan) where my research revolved around octopus histology and tissue sectioning techniques. During my time as an undergraduate student, I focused on evolutionary biology, but I also took courses in astrophysics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, etc.
During high school, I was an IB student who did HL Biology, HL Physics, HL English A: Language and Literature, SL Chemistry, SL Maths, and SL Arabic B.
I am most experienced in tutoring biology, but have also tutored chemistry and SATs in the past, and am happy to help with physics, too. I have also always been "the-student-who-helps-teach-other-students" in academic settings! :-)

I mainly teach high school-level biology (IB, A-Levels, etc). Lower levels are welcome, too! I typically do 1-2 hour lessons.
I am very passionate about teaching, and as such, my undergraduate dissertation was on investigating the effectiveness of communicating scientific concepts through creative mediums. I thus have a good understanding of the human brain's receptiveness to scientific concepts, and how to become an effective science communicator. I aspire to become a professor of astrobiology.
My priority is to not just help students understand concepts they're meant to understand, but to also instil in them the skills and curiosity a scientific mind must have!
