About Marjorie
I am a certified middle school social studies teacher with over 10 years of experience working with 7th and 8th graders and a BA in History from the University of Maryland. I teach U.S. history and world geography and focus on making history and the world come to life in meaningful, accessible ways. I use content learning to strengthen reading comprehension and writing skills, helping students build understanding, confidence, and strong academic habits by connecting ideas to real-world examples and what they already know.

As a tutor, I focus on helping students understand content, not memorize it, by building on what they already know and connecting lessons to the real world. I help students grow as learners through discussion, clear explanations, and guided practice that strengthen reading comprehension, historical thinking, and writing skills. A typical lesson begins by identifying what the student understands and where confusion exists, then connecting new content to familiar ideas, current events, or everyday examples. Lessons include modeling, practice with real class materials, and time for students to explain their thinking. I intentionally focus on confidence-building by helping students experience success, recognize their strengths, and feel capable of tackling challenging material. What sets me apart is my experience as a current middle school teacher. I understand curriculum expectations, pacing, and how to support students who feel overwhelmed or disconnected from school. My lessons are designed for middle school students in grades 6–8, as well as early high school students who need support in history, geography, writing, reading comprehension, or study skills.
