About RICHARD
I am currently an associate instructional professor and have been teaching college for 13 years, prior to this I was employed for 12 years in the biotechnology industry. As a professor, I have taught courses in introductory biology for majors, upper level elementary microbiology, pre-nursing microbiology, and serve as coordinator for the undergraduate microbiology laboratory courses. The sizes of my lecture classes range from 200-400 students; introductory biology course comprised mainly freshman and sophomore level students; elementary microbiology courses comprise junior level and higher; and pre-nursing microbiology ranged from freshman through senior levels.

After initial assessment of the desires of the student, I would formulate a plan to address the particular subject areas he/she wants to work on. My approach is to probe with questions and determine the student's knowledge base, and to work from there; I am a proponent of concept mapping, or mind mapping to make the student an active part of the learning process. I believe this method to be effective in the student gaining a deeper understanding of the material and thereby also retaining the information at a much higher level. Success via this methodology does require the student to be prepared before tutoring sessions.
