About Gin
I’m a medical student with a positive, motivated, and friendly approach to teaching. Outside of academics, I love skiing, surfing, cooking, knitting, travelling, and dogs, so I bring lots of energy and personality to my sessions. I’m passionate about helping young people grow in confidence and truly reach their maximum potential. My aim is to create a supportive environment where your child feels encouraged, challenged, and able to achieve their very best.

My approach to tutoring 11+, creative writing, and GCSE English
I aim to make English feel clear, engaging, and empowering rather than intimidating. My teaching is tailored to each student’s personality, confidence level, and goals, because strong progress happens when students feel understood as well as challenged.
For 11+, I focus on building the core skills that underpin success: comprehension, vocabulary, inference, structure, and clear written expression. I like to break complex tasks into manageable steps so students learn how to think through questions calmly and methodically. Alongside exam technique, I also work on confidence and independence so they do not just memorise answers, but actually understand what strong English work looks like.
For creative writing, I encourage students to develop originality while also giving them practical tools to improve. We work on description, imagery, sentence variety, structure, tone, and how to make writing feel purposeful rather than random. I want students to enjoy writing, but also to recognise the difference between vague ideas and effective, vivid storytelling.
For GCSE English, my approach is both analytical and supportive. I help students strengthen close reading, essay structure, quotation use, and interpretation, while also showing them how to meet mark scheme criteria. I place a strong emphasis on building arguments clearly and expressing ideas in a thoughtful, perceptive way. I also know that many students struggle with confidence in English, so I try to create a calm environment where they feel comfortable making mistakes, asking questions, and improving steadily.
Overall, I balance skill-building, exam technique, and confidence-building. My goal is not only to help students achieve high grades, but to help them become sharper readers, more thoughtful writers, and more confident communicators.

I was one of Sydney’s students and honestly she helped me so much.
When I started, I felt really overwhelmed and didn’t even know where to begin with some topics. She never made it awkward or intimidating. If I didn’t get something, she’d just explain it in a different way until it finally clicked. She’s really patient and easy to talk to, which made a big difference because I actually felt comfortable asking “basic” questions.
Her sessions were always organised but not in a stiff way. She’d come with a plan, we’d go through tricky areas, do practice questions, and she’d give really practical exam tips that I still use now. It felt focused but relaxed at the same time.
I definitely improved while working with her, but more than that I just felt a lot more confident. If you want a tutor who’s calm, supportive, and actually cares about you doing well, Sydney’s a great choice.I’ve known Sydney for several years as both a friend and someone I’ve studied with, and I can honestly say she’s one of the most reliable and hardworking people I know.
She’s patient, calm, and explains things in a way that actually makes sense. Instead of just giving answers, she breaks topics down step by step and makes sure you understand the logic behind them. She’s also really good at spotting where someone is struggling and adjusting how she explains things. You never feel embarrassed asking her questions.
What stands out most is how much effort she puts in. She prepares properly, structures sessions clearly, and always follows up with helpful notes or practice questions. I’ve seen how she can take something that feels overwhelming and turn it into a clear plan that feels manageable.
I’d definitely recommend Sydney to anyone looking for a tutor who is supportive, organised, and genuinely invested in helping students improve and feel more confident.View more recommendations
