About Dr Samuel
I completed medical training at Oxford University and clinical training at UCL. At Oxford, I further specialised with an intercalated degree in Neuroscience. I also have an MSc in International Health Management from Imperial College.
I now work as a doctor in a central London teaching hospital, mainly in Oncology and Acute Medicine. I regularly teach medical students as part of my job, alongside my work as a private tutor.

I remember how frustrating GCSEs, A levels and the Oxbridge/Medicine admissions process were when I felt I wasn't reaching my potential with the resources and teaching provided at school, and I know how much of a difference some guidance and tutoring can make.
In my work, I continue to use the concepts that I learnt in my A levels. I have over 8 years' experience as a private tutor and also teach medical students weekly in my role as a doctor.
At Oxford, through the unique tutorial system, I became used to discussing concepts on a one-to-one basis and extending knowledge beyond what is prescribed on the syllabus - something that admissions tutors in medicine and at Oxbridge really value, but also something that greatly benefits a student in any studies. Admissions tests like the UKCAT and BMAT - which can seem like real barriers - are increasingly important in admissions, but scores can be dramatically increased just by focussing on technique and learning some insider tips.
My sessions are relaxed, discussion-based, and tailored to the learning style of the student. For me, tutoring has to be different from the teaching a student would have at school: it's a place where you feel more comfortable to ask questions, discuss ideas, and deal with new concepts without fear.
For that reason, each session with each student can differ. Certain students, or certain concepts, lend themselves to very visual learning, others to more discussion-based. Frequently, repetition and practice are valuable in ensuring that material is kept in long-term memory, so I often set some exercises for students to do over the week, but this is tailor-made for students based on the time they and their parents feel they can owe to it: after all, I want my tutoring to supplement other work, not take over from it.
Progress is measured each session informally through our discussion, and feedback can be provided to students or their parents when required. More formal measurements are made through mini-quizzes, mock exams and practice questions, with this being guided by the student's and parents' needs.
