About Lily
Growing up I was always in the honors and AP classes. The only thing stopping me from graduating high school early was the requirement of having to go through 4 years of physical education (even though I was a varsity athlete my senior year, which exempted me from physical education). During high school I was in the national honor society. I was inducted my junior year, and graduated my senior year. Throughout those two years, I worked as a tutor during my lunch and study hall periods. I tutored any subject the student needed help with, although it was mostly just math, biology and chemistry. I enjoyed it so much because it felt good to know that I was the one that actually helped them achieve their goals. I also helped mentor younger kids at my church throughout the entire time I was in high school. I helped them with anything they needed whether it was sports related or school related. Now, I am a college engineering student who has done things I would have never imagined doing. I've conducted two research reports on the heat transfer properties of nanoparticles, built a hammer, instrumented an air conditioner, and my favorite, built a hovercraft. I've done so many cool things here that I'm so proud of and I'd love to continue to pass my knowledge onto more students everyday.

I try to create lesson plans based around each student's understanding (how much they are caught up), or what will be most engaging for the students while learning the material. I want students to be able to grasp material, and I hold expectations for them to interact to show what they know. My typical lesson plans look very consistent. I like to start the lesson with review from the past lesson to ensure the student remembers/has grasped the topic. I will then move on to new material in my lecture. My lecture usually includes an explanation of the topic and group problem solving. If anyone has questions I encourage them to always ask. I have only ever tutored the high school before, but I am sure I would be able to tutor below that. I tutored for about two years when I was in the national honor society in high school. What sets me apart is my need for knowledge and perfection. At first I was disappointed when my perfect gpa was gone in college, but I then became realistic, I am not the smartest person to ever exist. I did become a perfectionist in my research, in my studying, and in my attendance though. I realized there were many other things I could put my perfect efforts into to try to get the best grades, even though I won't always get A+'s. I can teach students to be better at managing their math skills, and their studying skills, like how I learned through college. Some students just need more help and expanded resources, and that's okay, that's what tutors are made for. The lessons I plan to teach would be intended mainly for high school students.
