About Shreya
I started out as a computer engineer, then went on to complete my MBA — and somewhere along the way I realized that the thing I enjoy most isn't building systems or analyzing markets. It's explaining things. Taking something that feels complicated and making it feel obvious.
Math was not always easy for me either. I know what it's like to sit in a class and feel completely lost, too embarrassed to ask a question, hoping nobody notices. That experience is actually what makes me a better tutor — I don't take understanding for granted, and I never make a student feel behind for not getting something immediately.
Outside of tutoring I coach financial literacy to teenagers, which has taught me a lot about how young people actually learn. The attention span is shorter, the patience for abstraction is lower, and the need to see relevance is higher. So I've learned to teach concretely, move at the right pace, and make sure every session feels like progress — not just content delivery.

Math Made Less Scary — Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry & Statistics for Middle Schoolers
My Approach
I believe the reason most kids struggle with math isn't ability — it's that the concept was never explained in a way that clicked for them. (That is why I struggled)
I come from a computer engineering and business background, which means I've used math practically — not just passed tests on it. I know which concepts actually matter, where students typically get stuck, and how to build confidence back up once it's been knocked down by a bad grade or a confusing teacher.
My style is calm, patient, and conversational. No pressure, no judgment. If you don't get it the first time, we try a different angle. If you're bored, we make it more interesting. If you're nervous about an upcoming test, we build a plan.
Teaching Methods and Techniques
Every student learns differently so I don't use a one-size-fits-all approach. That said, a few things are consistent across every session:
I start with what the student already knows rather than assuming where they are. A five-minute diagnostic at the start tells me more than a report card does.
I use real-world examples to anchor abstract concepts. Trigonometry becomes more intuitive when it's connected to something visual. Statistics becomes engaging when the data is about something they actually care about.
I ask more questions than I answer. Rather than just showing how to solve a problem, I guide students to figure it out themselves — because that's what builds genuine understanding, not just memorization.
For algebra and pre-calculus, I spend extra time on the "why" behind each step so students aren't just following a procedure blindly. For trigonometry, I use visual tools and diagrams heavily. For statistics, I focus on interpretation — understanding what a result actually means, not just how to calculate it.
A Typical Lesson
The first 5-10 minutes we review anything from the previous session or address homework questions. This is where I identify gaps before they compound.
The next 20-25 minutes are focused on the new concept. I introduce it, connect it to something familiar, work through an example together, then ask the student to try one while I watch — intervening only when they need a nudge, not jumping in immediately.
The final 15-20 minutes are practice. I pick problems that range in difficulty, starting accessible and building up. I want every student to leave a session having solved something they thought they couldn't.
At the end I summarize what we covered and set one clear focus for the week — not homework overload, just one thing to keep thinking about.
What Sets Me Apart
I've spent time teaching and coaching young people in different contexts — from swimming lessons to financial literacy coaching for teenagers — and the skill that transfers across all of it is the same: meeting someone where they are and building enough trust that they're willing to try something that feels hard.
That's what I'm working toward in every session.
I'm also highly organized. I track what we've covered, what needs reinforcement, and how a student is progressing over time. Parents are always welcome to check in on how sessions are going.
Who These Lessons Are For
These sessions are designed for middle school students — roughly grades 6 through 8 — working through:
Algebra (expressions, equations, inequalities, linear functions)
Pre-Calculus foundations (functions, graphing, polynomials)
Trigonometry (angles, ratios, the unit circle, basic identities)
Statistics (data interpretation, probability, mean/median/mode, reading graphs)
Lessons work well for students who are falling behind and need to catch up, students who are keeping up but want to genuinely understand the material rather than just memorize it, and students preparing for an important test or the next level of math.
