About Joe
I am an experienced and engaging maths tutor, and have a detailed knowledge of maths appropriate for students doing A-Levels, GCSEs, and any school level below.
I achieved a grade of A* in Maths A-level and a grade of A in Maths GCSE. I have recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a first-class degree in Economics (MA Hons).
I have extensive experience planning, structuring, and delivering private maths tuition. I have been delivering lessons, both online and in-person, throughout 2020 for ten students aged 6 to 16. This has given me a fantastic understanding of the different approaches required to help students reach their full potential.
I have tutored in all of the topics included in the Maths GCSE/IGCSE curriculum. These include:
• Numbers (e.g. percentages and fractions)
• Algebra
• Graphs
• Trigonometry, shapes, and space
• Handling data and statistics
• Sets
• Sequences
I am also experienced in teaching exam strategy and preparing students for exams (incl. Edexcel, AQA and OCR).
In addition, I have tutored English as a second language in Milan, Italy on a full-time basis.
All my students have reported a substantial improvement after receiving tuition. This includes:

I am a friendly, patient and committed tutor who thrives on enabling students to reach their full potential. My lessons can improve your mathematical abilities, help you understand difficult concepts, and prepare you to succeed in exams.
They are suitably tailored to students of all abilities and learning styles, and can focus on:
• Reviewing topics that have already been taught in school.
• Teaching completely new topics.
• Preparing for exams.
The way lessons are structured is largely decided by what you need! We will discuss your educational goals and assess your strongest/weakest subject areas before tuition begins. The structure of each individual lesson is flexible, however, a typical lesson will involve:
1. Introduction to the topic and initial questions.
2. Interactive and engaging discussion of the topic and key concepts. This is supported by other learning materials (e.g. diagrams, graphs, real-life examples).
3. Practise exercises or past paper questions where I will provide detailed feedback.
The teaching methods used in lessons will depend on what is most effective for you (the student). However, the methods will always help you think independently and understand the topic in detail rather than just memorising facts.
