About Laura

Kia ora, I’m Laura. I’m a Statistics (Economics) graduate from the Institute of Statistics (STIS), Indonesia, with experience teaching math to students from upper primary through to junior secondary. I’m a patient and structured tutor who focuses on helping students understand concepts clearly and build confidence through practice. I take lessons seriously and come prepared with a plan, while staying flexible to what the student needs that day (homework, revision, or assessment preparation). I explain ideas step by step, check understanding regularly, and help students develop good habits such as showing working, checking answers, and learning from mistakes. I’m reliable, punctual, and supportive, and I aim to make math feel more manageable, especially for students who have lost confidence.

About lessons (NZ-focused, ready to paste)

My lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to each student’s needs—whether the goal is catching up, lifting grades, or preparing for assessments. I teach with a step-by-step approach that builds understanding first, then speed and accuracy through practice. I focus on helping students explain their reasoning clearly (which matters for senior assessments), not just memorising formulas.

Techniques and teaching methodology
a. Quick diagnostic at the start to identify gaps and set priorities
b. Clear explanation in simple language, followed by worked examples
c. Guided practice → independent practice, with immediate feedback
d. Problem-solving strategies (how to set up questions, show steps, and check answers)
e. Targeted revision of weak areas (fractions, algebra, graphs, probability, statistics)
f. Exam and test preparation using topic-based practice and timed questions (when relevant)

Typical length of a lesson
a. 60 minutes is standard (recommended for most students)
b. 45 minutes available for younger students
c. 90 minutes available for senior students preparing for assessments/exams

Qualifications and experience
I hold a Bachelor of Applied Science in Statistics (Economics) from the Institute of Statistics (STIS), Indonesia. I have experience teaching Maths for students aged around 6–16, and I also tutor data processing and analysis using qualitative and statistical methods—useful for senior statistics topics and students working with data-based assessments.

Who the lessons are for
a. Years 6–13 (upper primary to senior secondary)
b. Years 14-16
c. Students working towards NCEA (Levels 1–3) and general school maths
d. Students who want patient support, strong foundations, and better assessment performance
e. Senior students who want extra help with statistics and interpreting data
