About Sophia
I'm Sophie. I hold a Master of Cyber Security from Swinburne University and have 2 years of professional IT experience. My background is pretty technical, which means math has always been a big part of what I do, whether it was at uni or in the workplace.
I got into tutoring because I genuinely remember what it felt like to be stuck on a problem with no idea where to start. Having someone sit with me and explain it patiently in a way that actually made sense changed everything. That's the experience I want to give my students.
I'm naturally patient and pretty easygoing. I'll never make you feel silly for not knowing something. If anything, I think the bravest thing a student can do is admit they're struggling and ask for help. I take my sessions seriously and always come prepared, but I also believe learning shouldn't feel like a punishment.
Outside of tutoring I'm a bit of a nerd. I'm always building something, staying across what's happening in tech, and learning new things myself. I think that curiosity makes me a better tutor because I never forget what it's like to be a beginner at something.

Maths can feel overwhelming when it starts piling up. One topic you didn't quite get suddenly makes the next three impossible, and before you know it you're completely lost. I've been there myself, and I know how frustrating it is to sit in class pretending you understand when you don't.
My approach is simple. I figure out exactly where things stopped making sense for you, and we rebuild from there. I break problems down into small, manageable steps and explain them in plain language. No textbook jargon, no rushing ahead. If one explanation doesn't land, I'll come at it from a completely different angle until it clicks.
Sessions are typically one hour. I keep things relaxed and conversational. I want you to feel comfortable saying "I have no idea what's going on" because that's honestly the most useful thing you can tell me. There's no judgement, ever.
I cover VCE General Maths and Methods, as well as Years 7 to 10 maths. Whether you're trying to pass, boost your ATAR, get through SACs without panicking, or just finally understand a topic that's never made sense, I'm here to help.
