About Mark
I am a part-time airline pilot and am spending some of my free time as a professional tutor. I have plenty of experience in coaching teams from my financial background in the city and as an airline captain. Personal development is something I have always been passionate about and although I am reasonable new to teaching, I have some experience of online tutoring through the Access Project, a charitable organised which aims to get people to university who otherwise might not have the opportunity.
I have a strong background in mathematics with a degree in the subject and five years’ experience as an Actuary. However, I wasn’t always gifted in maths and was a very average GCSE student, I remember the turning point when the subject clicked for me and five years later, I had a first-class degree in it. This places me in a great position for students who feel they need a new approach to learning mathematics, and I will prove that you can learn the techniques to be great at the subject even if it feels like a subject that will never click.

From my own experience of mathematics, and science more generally; a one size fits all approach of methodical curriculum learning doesn’t always work and it often can leave students feeling left behind as subjects progress and more topics are introduced. I will always prioritise identifying a student’s particular needs in a subject and take it back to the very basics if necessary.
I teach the tools required to solve problems so that a student can walk into an exam confident they can tackle any question rather than going in with just a few memorised examples and blind hope that the ‘right’ questions come up.
