About John
I’m a recent graduate of Wilfrid Laurier University, where I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance. I’m currently working full-time in the financial services industry in Toronto, where I get to apply the kind of quantitative thinking I tutor every day — statistics, financial math, and data analysis are part of my actual job, not just something I studied.
I started tutoring because I genuinely like the subject matter and I’m good at translating it. Math and stats have a reputation for being intimidating, but most of the time the issue isn’t the material — it’s the way it was first explained. I try to teach the way I wish I’d been taught: patiently, with real-world examples, and without making anyone feel like they should already understand something they don’t.
Outside of work and tutoring, I’m someone who likes to dig into how things work — whether that’s markets, economics, or the logic behind a tricky stats problem. I bring that same curiosity to my sessions, and I find students respond to it. Learning works best when both people are actually engaged.

What I can help with:
• High school: Grade 9–12 Math, Advanced Functions, Calculus & Vectors, Data Management
• University: Introductory & Intermediate Statistics, Business Math, Quantitative Methods, Finance fundamentals
• Test prep and exam crunch sessions
My approach: I work backward from where you’re stuck. Most students don’t actually have a “math problem” - they usually are missing one or two missing fundamentals from earlier lessons in their course. We find those gaps, fix them, and the rest gets a lot easier. I’ll walk through worked examples, then hand the pen over to you so you’re doing the thinking by the end of the session.
Logistics: Online via Zoom, flexible evenings and weekends to fit around school and work schedules. First session is a low-pressure chat to map out what you need.
Message me and let’s get started.
