About Marilyn
I have 27 years of teaching experience helping students make sense of math. I have a Master's Degree in Math Education. I have kept up with using technology in the classroom. I try to make math fun and relate it to everyday life. I know math can be scary at times. There are numbers , variables (why is there an "x") and steps in the problems. I can help you with your math by making sure the vocabulary is understood and previous background material can be recalled in order to work the problem. I have had students tell me how much they appreciated the help, and some of them now want to be a teacher. Math shouldn't be scary. We need to enjoy the math and have fun learning it.

I like to start my lessons with a warm up game. My teaching methods include using visuals, manipulatives, songs, mnemonics, and games. A lesson on graphing linear equations may start with showing different line graphs and discussing different aspects of the graphs and slopes. we would review slopes and play the slope song. The lesson would continue with plotting points and finding the slope of the line. The student would do practice work using Kahoot and Desmos. I would make sure the student is understanding the objectives and clarify any misunderstandings. This lesson is for Grades 6 - 9 grade
