About Chance
I am a creative scientist, tenacious engineer, curious mathematician, and passionate educator. I originally came to Massachusetts to study and research paleoclimate, atmospheric chemistry, and biogeochemical systems at MIT on a Dean Fellowship. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with Emphases in Chemical Engineering and Mathematics from the University of Utah. Outside of math and science, I love coffee and tea, reading and writing, cooking and exercise, and anything outdoors. I have over 10 years of tutoring experience and love to help students excel in test prep, math, or science.

I have primarily instructed college students within the Salt Lake Valley and Greater Boston areas, with topics ranging across mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering, and general study techniques. I am comfortable tutoring any age group, from AP and SAT/ACT exams for High School students to returning or nontraditional students at the University level. My primary method of instruction is to first let the student guide the lesson to what they think is most important, then be practical about what we could accomplish next (is a test, quiz, or homework coming up soon?), and, if we still don't have an immediate direction to take, then I excel in constructing my own problems or finding excellent resources for us to explore. My methodology as a tutor is to treat everyone, no matter their age, country of origin, or personal characteristics, as I would like to be treated and as an equal.

Chance helped me in my quantitative reasoning class which dealt with statistics among other things. He is attentive and a great multitasker when having to work with more than one person. He is also very intelligent, he only needed one look at the problem to figure out how to do it and teach me how it’s done. The lessons were very symbiotic where I never felt like he was doing it for me or I couldn’t understand. All in all Chance is an excellent teacher!
