About Josh
I have been tutoring for over three years, and in that time, I have taught hundreds of students, in several different settings. I have worked in a community college's tutoring center. I give one-on-one lessons. I have given group lessons. I have been a TA for a differential equations class. I even helped my classmates and peers when I was in college. I also have experience with SAT test prep. During college, I volunteered my time to students in underserved school districts to help them prepare to take the SAT. I have worked with high school students, college students, and adults in all levels of math from prealgebra to calculus and beyond. One of my algebra students saw her grade go from a C to an A in three months. I helped one of my adult students pass an exam to be admitted into the naval officer's training corps. Everyone who came into the tutoring center I worked in saw improvement in their grades and understanding of math. My high school calculus students have all earned a 4 or 5 on their AP exams. Everyone I tutored has been at a different level of math, and I adapt my lessons accordingly.

My methodology is heavily dependent on the student that I'm working with. I alter my teaching strategies based on what I observe from my students. I'm a very flexible tutor, and I will find the method of teaching that is best for you. I generally ask my students questions to get them to demonstrate their understanding. I always have my students explain to me what they know. I firmly believe that one of the best ways to learn is to teach to someone else. I also emphasize building up my students' confidence and ability to trust their judgment and intuition. No matter how much tutoring I provide, I won't be there for the test, so it's important for students to learn to operate independent of me.

I highly recommend Josh as a tutor. 10 out of 10. Josh is a gifted teacher. Not just qualified or talented, but gifted. He has worked extensively with my 17 year old son to help him with algebra and also help him prepare for his SAT math sections. Josh adapts his teaching methods to my son's needs. Where other tutors would often lecture and show and tell, Josh, on the other hand, has my son try every aspect of a concept and formula to make sure he knows it. Other teachers would explain a problem and ask my son, "You understand? You got that?" My son would invariably say he does, and he even believed he did UNTIL he tried to do it himself and realize he didn't fully understand it. Josh makes sure my son tries every aspect of a math problem on his own and that has made all the difference. I have also noticed that Josh has carefully build a relationship of trust between himself and my teenaged son which keeps them working well together.

James WellsI have had the pleasure of having Josh as my tutor for all 4 of my high school years and have been thoroughly impressed. Josh was able to adapt his style of teaching in a way that would best help me to learn and is always willing to change things up to make sessions feel fresh and not repetitive. Beyond all that Josh is a very kind individual. Multiple times I have had to cancel on short notice and Josh is able to understand and set up new sessions quickly. It has been an amazing 4 years I spent learning from Josh and I can't wait for the many new things I will learn from Josh as I enter college.
Josh was an amazing tutor with my son. He is very patient and knowledgeable and my son really enjoyed learning from him. I would highly recommend Josh for any math tutoring needs.
