  • 1) Do you speak this language fluently because of your origins or because a teacher inspired you to learn?

Spanish is my native language since I was born in Spain. Over the years, I've studied English, Italian (during my Erasmus program), and German at university. My love for languages and traveling has been essential in helping me connect with my students and learn about their backgrounds. It also gives me a great platform to share my own culture with them in return.
  • 2) Can you name a living, historical or fictional character that you think is the emblematic representative of the language's culture?

I could name many well-known figures from the Hispanic world across various fields. In the arts, we have Frida Kahlo (Mexican) and Picasso (Spanish), while in contemporary music, artists like Rosalía (Spanish) and Shakira (Colombian) stand out. In literature, it is essential to mention Cervantes and his masterpiece Don Quixote; notably, the version most popular in London is the one created by Carlos Acosta for the Royal Ballet in 2013. I must also mention Gabriel García Márquez and one of my favorite authors, Isabel Allende (Chilean), who is also a dedicated activist for the rights of women and children. Finally, one cannot forget elite athletes like Rafael Nadal, who has reached an incredible milestone in both Spanish and international tennis.
  • 3) Is there a typical word, phrase, tradition or behavior in the language that you particularly like?

One of the best traditions in Spain is the 'sobremesa'—the habit of staying at the table to enjoy a long conversation with friends and family after a meal. Family means something truly special here; the more people there are, the more fun is guaranteed! :P
  • 4) Why does speaking this language matter to you?

To me, Spanish is more than a language; it’s about understanding my culture and passing it on. This passion is what drives me to teach, from my GCSE students to the adults I work with
  • 5) What is the main difficulty in learning this language and what can help the process of learning?

Even though Spanish is one of the most spoken languages in the world, it can be quite tricky to master the grammar. But nothing is impossible! One of the greatest rewards is seeing my students’ hard work pay off when they finally manage to have a conversation. This is the perfect "call to action" for a language learner. "The key is to practice whenever possible and seek immersion to speed up the process—whether it's through music, movies, reading, or language exchanges
  • 6) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your language learning or your days at school.

One of the funniest moments with both adults and younger students is when they see the enviable number of Bank Holidays and the long summer break we have in Spain compared to other countries. Or even better—the look on their faces when they find out that in Spain, 'we don't eat paella for dinner!
  • 7) How has travel or a specific trip helped you to increase your skill and knowledge of the language?

Traveling to other countries has helped me appreciate my own even more, as well as the countries I’ve visited and those I have yet to see. :) We often take certain attitudes, festivals, behaviors, and foods for granted, only to travel and discover that every country is truly unique and irreplicable
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in language?

__tpx__Every Spanish teacher has something special to offer! For my part, I bring a deep love for the language and a passion for teaching every aspect of the culture—from current events and history to hidden gems and local customs. While these are a vital part of my lessons, I believe grammar and conversation are essential for truly mastering the language. Although every lesson is carefully planned and personalized, I always adapt to the student's needs and what they require at any given moment
