About Colleen
I have been blessed to receive a good education, for which I worked hard! In my full-time teaching career, I had the opportunity to connect with some amazing high school students. I currently offer my services as an ESL tutor to adults that remain committed week after week to the process of learning. Not just to better their lives financially, but to expand their self-worth as members of a larger community. I give my students all that I possibly can and all that they are willing to take; it is up to them to do the work to pick up the information and run!

Learning requires four things. Communication (listening, speaking, reading, and writing); Culture (understanding the culture of learning we currently have as well as the culture to which we want to grow); Connections (making those valuable and essential connections with others learning and growing); Comparisons (what can I compare to what I know and what someone else may know).
Bloom taught us well. His hierarchy works! Start with remembering, and move through the stages of applying, synthesizing, to finally creating. Each students should be acknowledged at whatever stage they are in as well as how they obtain the next level of processing. THAT is learning. It's always about progress, not perfection.
My experience has been with high school students in a collegiate environment, ie., sophomores who will graduate as juniors to a college plan. Basically, the sophomores I taught were in their last year of high school.
Currently, I am tutoring ESL adults with little to no English. We do a lot in interactive activities. I also encourage them to use the four "C's". I have made personal connections with these folks. Helping them navigate English to obtain employment, citizenship, or their GEDs has been incredibly rewarding!
