About Tabitha

Hi, my name is Tabitha! I am a medicine graduate from The University of Cambridge and an incoming FY1 doctor in London. Having experienced the benefits of supportive tutoring, I strongly believe that any student can experience success and improvement in their studies with the right help. I achieved A* grades in all 13 of my GCSEs and have five A* grades at A-level in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths and 2 A grades at French (AS), and Latin (AS). Furthermore, I have a 1st class degree in Biomedical Sciences from UCL (where I graduated in the top 10% of my class). I believe all of these qualifications have prepared me well to teach biology. I thoroughly enjoyed biology at school, and aim to show this passion when I teach. Tuition with me would start with an onboarding meeting to discuss your academic goals. This is an essential first step to enable me to teach you effectively. From there, I can take you through the content for each subject. After learning a topic, I would assess your knowledge using an array of past paper questions. I look forward to meeting you, assisting your academic journey and helping you reach your personal goals! I would also be happy to offer extra help for students looking to apply for Medicine!

My mission is to ensure that every student succeeds and feels proud of their accomplishments. I use an initial (free) onboarding meeting to understand the needs of each of my students to guide me in creating the best tutoring experience for success. In subsequent lessons, I will take you through the content for each topic, using a vast bank of resources that I have accumulated. After learning a topic, I would then assess your knowledge using past paper questions. To conclude the lesson I would recap what has been learnt, check your understanding, give time for questions and finally, set some light homework to aid with consolidation. Each lesson typically lasts 1 hour (with the opportunities for breaks if needed). I have helped teach clinical medical students at the University of Cambridge for 3 years, both in person and online. I truly enjoy teaching students and have thoroughly enjoyed watching my tutees grow in both confidence and knowledge. Beyond this, I supported many students during the pandemic to supplement their GCSE/A-Level prep to achieve exceptional results. I hope to do the same for you!

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

My interest in science and education started at an early age, but it deepened when I pursued Biomedical Sciences at UCL and Medicine at the University of Cambridge. I was always fascinated by how biological systems work, from molecular interactions to complex physiological processes. During my time at university, I engaged in peer teaching, mentoring younger students, and delivering tutorials, which made me realize how much I enjoy breaking down complex topics into simple, digestible concepts.

As for private tutoring, it started when I began helping medical and science students prepare for exams. I saw how tailored guidance could transform a student's understanding and confidence, and I wanted to make high-quality science education accessible and engaging. Teaching allows me to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, especially for students preparing for IGCSE, A-levels, and university entrance exams.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I specialize in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Medicine-related subjects. My teaching focuses on:
✔️ Exam techniques and structured answers - Helping students understand how to tackle long-answer questions efficiently.
✔️ Breaking down complex biological concepts - From cell biology to genetics, enzymes, and homeostasis, I make challenging topics easier to grasp.
✔️ Active recall and study strategies - Teaching students how to memorize effectively and apply their knowledge, rather than just rote learning.
✔️ Critical thinking and application - I encourage students to think beyond textbooks, linking biology to real-world medical and scientific advancements.

The topics I enjoy teaching most are genetics, human physiology, biotechnology, and anything related to medical science, as they link directly to my academic and research background. If I had to pick topics I like a little less, it would be ecology, simply because I prefer molecular biology and human physiology!
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Yes, during my time at UCL and Cambridge, I was surrounded by brilliant professors and mentors who made science come alive. One of my biggest inspirations was a biomedical science professor who not only had an exceptional way of explaining concepts but also pushed students to think critically rather than just memorize facts.

Beyond academics, I admire entrepreneurial scientists who use their expertise to create biotech startups and innovate within the field of AI and synthetic biology-a direction I'm personally pursuing. Their ability to combine knowledge, creativity, and business insight is something I strive to integrate into my own career.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A great tutor needs to be:

✔️ Patient & Adaptable - Every student learns differently, and a good tutor must tailor lessons to their unique needs.
✔️ Engaging & Passionate - If you love what you teach, your enthusiasm is contagious! Students engage better when they see real-world applications.
✔️ Structured & Clear - Explaining concepts step by step, using analogies, and linking topics makes learning much easier.
✔️ Encouraging & Supportive - Many students struggle with confidence. A great tutor not only teaches content but also builds belief in a student's abilities.
✔️ Results-Oriented - It's not just about teaching-it's about helping students apply knowledge effectively in exams and real-world scenarios.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the best moments in my tutoring experience was working with a student who was struggling with Biology and had lost all confidence in their ability to pass their exams. They had tried memorizing everything but couldn't apply their knowledge in past paper questions.

I completely changed their approach-teaching them how to structure answers, use active recall, and think logically about biological concepts rather than just memorizing definitions. Over time, their confidence grew, and they went from a predicted grade of a 4 to achieving a 7 in their final IGCSE exam! Seeing their transformation made me realize how much a tailored teaching approach can change a student's perspective on learning.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

One of the biggest challenges in Biology and Medicine is that there's a massive amount of content to learn. When I was studying, I often found myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information, from molecular pathways to complex physiological processes.

What helped me overcome this was learning how to study smarter, not harder-using techniques like active recall, spaced repetition, and mind mapping to organize information in a way that made sense. I now use these strategies in my tutoring to help students avoid the same struggles I faced.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

My passion is at the intersection of science, technology, and education. While I love tutoring and helping students succeed in their exams, my ultimate goal is to revolutionize research through AI, synthetic biology, and biotech innovation.

Beyond teaching, I am actively exploring ways to merge AI with biology. I believe the future of science lies in interdisciplinary innovation, and I hope to inspire students to see biology not just as a subject but as a field full of endless possibilities.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

I believe what makes me a Superprof Ambassador is my ability to break down complex scientific concepts into simple, engaging explanations while also teaching students how to think critically and apply their knowledge effectively.

I'm not just a tutor-I'm a mentor, a strategist, and someone who truly cares about my students' success. My approach goes beyond simply "teaching the syllabus"-I help students develop the skills, confidence, and mindset needed to excel not only in exams but in their future careers.

    What sets me apart?
✅ Exam Strategy Expertise - I don't just teach content; I train students to analyze questions, structure responses, and maximize their marks.
✅ Innovative Learning Techniques - I incorporate active recall, spaced repetition, and critical thinking exercises to make learning effective.
✅ Passion for Science & Tech - I help students see how Biology connects to real-world medical advancements, AI, and biotech.

"To me, education is more than just passing exams-it's about learning how to think, solve problems, and innovate. And that's what I aim to bring to every student I teach."
