About Brendan
I am a licensed Math teacher in Massachusetts, about to begin my second year as a core academic Math teacher. I have taught Precalculus, Geometry, and Algebra, as well as working in extracurriculars as a Robotics (VEX, Arduino) coach and Philosophy Club coordinator.
I am passionate about teaching and have worked in a variety of education jobs, from marine sciences tour guide to college TA to teacher and coach.

I bring an interdisciplinary approach to teaching STEM. With my background in Philosophy and History of Science, I bring an understanding not just of the content itself, but also why it was discovered, by whom, and for what purpose. Math is not just something you learn to pass a test-- it is the underlying structure behind physics, computing, music, art, and the natural world!
I emphasize a Socratic, dialogue-based approach of "figuring it out together". Math is a difficult topic, but it's also something anyone can discover by persistent focus and effort
I usually teach High School, but I also have experience at the Middle School and College levels.

Brendan and I went to middle school, high school, and college together. He was, and is, the first person I go to when I have trouble understanding something. He can make any difficult concept feel intuitive, and his interest in whatever he is learning/teaching is infectious. We saw each other daily for many years, and in every conversation I would come away with new information and understanding.
He is the best explainer I know, and has the most genuine enthusiasm I have ever encountered. His grasp of math (as well as logic, physics, classics, French, history, religion, and many other subjects) is unparalleled. (And my dad teaches grad students through MIT, so I've met a lot of smart people!)
