About Joanne
I LOVE psychology. It's my aim to bring it to life in a way that sparks the ignition for you to get as excited about the research as I do. If you are truly fascinated by a topic, writing essays about it feels more like storytelling. My degree in Physiology and Psychology means I am FASCINATED by the biopsychology components - which many find daunting, but these are my favourite stories to tell. You'll soon realise how relatable this subject is if you apply it to what you experience daily. As for the research methods aspect of the A Level course, I am also a trained Chemistry teacher (who counts on her fingers when it comes to maths!!) so I know exactly how to break scientific and statistical topics down into simple chunks.

I am an A Level Psychology teacher at a Grammar School in South Devon, currently teaching AQA though I have experience of tutoring for other exam boards. My techniques are interactive and student-led, using online platforms such as Pear Deck and Gimkit. As a result, each lesson is unique and tailored to individual needs. I incorporate a variety of taught content, exam technique with practice questions, in addition to light-hearted quiz-based activities to test recall so that lessons are enjoyed rather than endured! I have taught for 9 years and examined for 5 of the past 7 years (missing 2 seasons due to Covid-19). I have tutored for 5 years with excellent results. I prefer 1-hour lessons but can be flexible to meet your needs.

Perfect! Joanne has been an excellent tutor to my neurodivergent 18 year old daughter. She has given a lot of thought to my daughter's needs and how best to support her. She has proposed different techniques and used these alongside covering the curriculum. She has also kept in close touch with me and suggested other resources that might be of use. Joanne is highly recommended.

Since Jo tutored our anxious daughter GCSE maths and Chemistry, my daughter loves school again. She’s even considering taking Chemistry at A Level thanks to the confidence Jo gave her. Her peardeck lesson is amazing to make the learning interactive - never seen anything like it.
Jo tutored my son Psychology. Her lessons were amazing - fun, digital and really helped him to put essays together on his own. So much better than my son's school's resources. He went from an E grade to a B grade in 4 months!!
