About Rafatu
I am a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 20 years of experience in mechanical design, CAD, product development and engineering systems.
My background includes work across aerospace, robotics, wind energy, oil and gas, and other regulated engineering environments. I have used CAD and engineering design tools in real industry settings, supporting everything from concept design and detailed modelling through to drawings, documentation, product data and engineering change processes.
I offer a practical, patient and professional approach to tutoring. My aim is to help students not only learn SolidWorks commands, but also understand how to model clearly, structure their work properly and think like an engineer.
I can support beginners, university students, apprentices, graduates and junior engineers who want to build confidence with SolidWorks, assemblies, drawings, design projects or portfolio work.
Lessons are friendly, structured and tailored to your level, with a focus on real-world engineering practice and helping you progress at your own pace.

My approach is practical, patient and tailored to the individual rather than simply following generic tutorials. I focus on helping students and junior engineers understand how SolidWorks is used in real engineering environments, not just how to complete isolated commands.
Lessons are structured around:
-Building confidence step-by-step
-Understanding good modelling practices
-Learning efficient workflows
-Developing problem-solving skills
-Producing clean, professional CAD models and drawings
-Understanding how designs translate into manufacturing and real projects
I adapt sessions depending on the student’s level and goals. Some students need help understanding the fundamentals, while others may need support with assemblies, drawings, university projects, portfolio work or preparing for industry placements and graduate roles.
I also help students understand common mistakes made in engineering design and how to work in a more structured and professional way.
Sessions can include:
-Live walkthroughs
-Screen sharing and hands-on modelling
-Guided exercises
-Assignment/project support
-Design reviews and feedback
-Industry tips and best practices
-Q&A and troubleshooting
My aim is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and learning at their own pace.
Typical lesson length/Typical sessions are:
-1 hour for focused tutoring or troubleshooting
-1.5–2 hours for deeper project work or university assignments
Flexible evening and weekend sessions are available remotely via Teams or Zoom.
Qualifications and experience
I am a Chartered Mechanical Engineer (CEng MIMechE) with over 20 years of experience across mechanical engineering, CAD, PLM and engineering systems.
My background includes work within:
